VELLORE: Mayor of Vellore Corporation P. Karthikeyan adjourned the ordinary meeting of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-controlled Corporation Council here on Wednesday, protesting against the action of the Corporation Commissioner in replacing former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi's picture behind the Mayor's chair in the Council hall with that of Chief Minister Jayalalitha without his knowledge. Mr. Karthikeyan, who belongs to the DMK, said that he himself hung the pictures of the then former Chief Minister Jayalalitha and former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran in the Council Hall on both sides of the picture of Mr. Karunanidhi when the new building of the Corporation was inaugurated by the former Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in December last year. He said that if the Commissioner had told him, he himself would have arranged for the removal of the picture of Mr. Karunanidhi and its replacement with that of Ms. Jayalalithaa since it was the normal procedure to have the picture of the Chief Minister in the Council hall. He would have hung the portrait of Mr. Karunanidhi in some other prominent place in the Corporation building. The Mayor said that he did not raise any objection when the Commissioner Seeni Ajmal Khan replacing the picture of Mr. Karunanidhi with that of Ms. Jayalalithaa in the reception hall of the Corporation building about 15 days ago, though it was done without his knowledge. He adjourned the council meeting on Wednesday following the demand of the majority DMK councillors since the picture of Mr. Karunanidhi in the Council hall was replaced with that of Ms. Jayalalithaa after he and the councillors assembled for the meeting at 11 a.m.
