KRISHNAGIRI: Life imprisonment was awarded to two persons by the District Sessions Court and District Additional Sessions Court in Krishnagiri on Wednesday.
A couple, Selvam and Thulasiammal, from Kundalapatti village near Kaveripattinam killed their second girl child in 2005 by giving it tobacco juice and burying it in an isolated place.
On a tip-off, the local Village Administrative Offier lodged a complaint at the Kaveripattinam police station.
A case has been registered against the couple for female infanticide. Hearing the case, Principal District Judge K. Perumal slapped life sentence on Selvam for female infanticide. Besides life sentence, the judge also pronounced that Selvam had to undergo seven years imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000. An imprisonment of seven years was awarded to his wife Thulasiammal for her role in conspiring to kill the child. A fine of Rs. 1,000, too, was imposed on her.
