Pandemonium in rythu sadassu

Chittoor: Pandemonium prevailed in the Rythu Sadassu held here on Wednesday when the police arrested a farmer Venkatachalam and took him away forcefully from the meeting place. The farmers, who were enraged over the police action, shouted slogans against the police and the government.

The concerned officers offered apology to the farmers for the unhappy incident and prevailed upon them to attend the meeting. Meanwhile the arrested farmer was released and brought to the meeting place. Minister Galla Aruna Kumari, Principal Secretary (Agriculture) Bale Rao and district Collector Salomon Arogyaraj attended the Sadassu.

The Collector and the RDO took pains to convince the farmers and kept the meeting in order. Several farmers urged the Minister to reopen the defunct Vijaya dairy at Chittoor and help the farmers depending upon it for their livelihood, besides increasing the rate of the milk per litre. They also requested the officials to announce the MSP of cane per tonne and payment of the arrear bills, besides supply of quality groundnut seed.
