To provide R&D support to produce solar power solutions for telecom tower infrastructure CHENNAI: MHS Energy, a Chennai-based infrastructure company that offers technology for low maintenance outdoor power solution mainly for the telecom tower infrastructure, has entered into a joint venture with the German-based b+w Electronics Systems to provide technology and R&D support to manufacture solar power solutions for telecom tower infrastructure. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Sajjan M. Sharma, Managing Director, MHS Energy, said under the agreement, MHS Energy would launch advanced solar power systems for telecom service providers. Mr. Sharma said it would take 15 months for the company to start the production in India. During the period, the company had tied up with six telecom service providers to install and test the products. To start with the company would offer these products on an operational expenditure mode to telecom companies. Later it would plan to bring 500 of advanced solar power cube every month from Germany till it started manufacturing. It planned to bring in nearly 6,000 units in CKD (completely knocked down) form and would be assembled in the MHS' plant. Investment Mr. Sharma said MHS Energy had identified six acres between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for locating the facility. The company planned to invest nearly Rs.150 crore for setting up the plant and importing solar power cubes. Heinrich Walterfang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, b+w Electronic systems and Director, MHS Energy Pvt Ltd, said the advanced solar power cube was a well engineered product which would ease the pressure on the economy as well as the environment. The power cube utilises the solar panel as a power generation device uses Li-ion batteries which would allow higher operating temperature.
