It is aimed at creating awareness on preventive healthcare ‘We planned the camp here because this is the biggest industrial area in the city' Bangalore: To create awareness about preventive healthcare, not just among its card-holders but also among the general public, the Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Rajajinagar Model Hospital will organise a free health mela in Peenya industrial area on Saturday. Giving details of the health camp, Hospital Medical Superintendent A.K. Khokhar told presspersons on Friday that the camp would be held at Peenya Gymkhana Grounds near NTTF Circle in Peenya from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “We have contacted more than 400 industries and nearly 3,000 people are expected to turn up at the camp,” Dr. Khokhar said. Apart from medical examinations by doctors from various specialities, basic laboratory tests will also be done at the camp. As many as 150 doctors from various departments in the hospital, including cardiology, neurology, orthopaedics and oncology will examine the participants. That apart, nearly 250 paramedical staff and lab technicians have also been deployed, he said. Large participation Pointing out that more than three lakh card-holders of the total nine lakh in the city are from Peenya, Dr. Khokhar said: “We planned the camp here because this is the biggest industrial area in the city. The next such camp will be held in Rajajinagar Industrial area.” Diamond jubilee He said the functioning of the hospital would not be affected on Saturday as only 150 of the 250 doctors will be deployed for the camp. “As it is, the hospital's outpatient department functions only for half a day on second Saturdays and public holidays. We are organising these camps to also mark the diamond jubilee year of the ESIC,” he added. Call 23320271/72 for details.
