Higher compensation sought for crop loss

Staff Reporter

PALAKKAD: The two-day State leadership camp of the Kisan Sabha, which ended at Malampuzha here on Friday, urged the State government to revise the compensation paid to farmers for crop loss considering the cost of cultivation.

The resolution passed by the leadership camp also demanded financial assistance to take up new cultivation after the crop loss caused by natural calamities.

The resolution also urged the State government to pay the price of paddy procured by the Kerala State Civil Supplies Corporation under

the State government's paddy procurement scheme. Owing to delay in getting the price for their products, the farmers have to pay huge amounts as interest on the loan taken for cultivation, the Kisan Sabha said.

It has also demanded a hike in the farmers' pension to Rs.2,000 a month.
