Students must have some written proof of their choices online Centralised counselling to be done at a single venue BHUBANESWAR: After the State government decided to continue with web-based counselling for admission into professional courses, Orissa Private Engineering College Association (OPECA) demanded a foolproof mechanism before its implementation. “All procedures followed in manual counselling which was in use from 1996 till 2010, must be implemented in the software. We have requested that after preparation of every procedure in the software for web counselling, a demo presentation be shown to us so that we are satisfied with software,” said OPECA honorary secretary Binod Dash. He said web counselling should be done in a phased manner by allotting ranks to students during the first two days and subsequently the results could be published “It is unfortunate that a student who drops out for some reason, the same seat is not being offered to the next candidate who is in queue,” Mr. Dash said. All unfulfilled reserved seats must be reserved immediately on completion of the respective quota counselling and added to the general category to be filled up by general category students, OPECA secretary said. Government or JEE authorities should open more centres at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and one centre in each district headquarter with 30 computers in a centre having Internet access so that candidates could go to these centres for registration and choice filling and not depend on Internet café, he said. Create awareness Authorities should create awareness about web counselling among the students aspiring to study technical education through advertisement and they should be intimated earlier the stepwise procedure of web counselling through counselling brochure or website, OPECA said. The association said students must have some written proof of their choices online, rather submit their choice list to JEE office in the prescribed format. After the completion of the web counselling or e-counselling, centralised counselling could be done at a single venue for students who had not been able to take advantage of web counselling, Mr. Dash suggested.
