GRIDCO asked to prepare list of no-construction zones

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: The State Energy department asked GRIDCO to provide a list of existing and proposed Low Tension, High Tension and Extra High Tension lines to Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) for restriction of construction activities.

At a recently held high-level meeting on electrical safety, it was decided that BDA should declare the areas on which these electrical lines pass through as green zones to restrict construction activities.

Besides, Housing and Urban Development department was urged to issue necessary instruction to all the urban local bodies and development authorities to keep the road width in new project areas minimum nine metres to facilitate erection of electric poles and laying of electric cables.

It was observed that due to delay in shifting of electrical poles, the raising and widening works of roads were carried out without waiting for the same and as a result of which, the poles were coming in the middle of the passageways causing accidents.

The Energy department decided to fix a deadline for shifting of poles in an area after deposit of the shifting payment by the road owning department. It was resolved that the distribution companies would give a deadline and complete work of shifting of poles in a projected area in one working season.

Moreover, Works department would provide a list of roads requiring shifting and relocation of electric poles to the distribution companies for taking up necessary preparedness activities for shifting of poles.

The Energy department found that estimates of shifting and relocation of poles was unnecessarily inflated and distribution companies were asked to be cautious while preparing the estimates of such activities.
