DMDK now recognised party, says Vijayakant

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) is now a recognised political party in Tamil Nadu and the ‘Murasu' (Nagara) symbol has been allotted to it, party president Vijayakant said on Saturday.

In a statement here, he said that a representation seeking recognition for the DMDK was sent to the Election Commission citing the party's performance in the Assembly elections.

The DMDK won 29 seats out of the 41 it contested, and got nearly 30 lakh votes.

The Commission passed an order on Friday granting the recognition.
