KHAMMAM: The Singareni Collieries Workers Union, an affiliate of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and the recognised trade union of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL), has renewed its call for an indefinite strike in the entire Singareni coal mines from June 20 to press for implementation of its 47-point charter of demands after the Regional Labour Commissioner (RLC)-led tripartite talks with the management ended inconclusively in Kothagudem on Saturday. According to sources, the RLC, Srivathsava, held another round of talks with the representatives of both SCCL management and the AITUC at the Singareni headquarters in Kothagudem to resolve the impasse. Speaking to The Hindu, the AITUC deputy general secretary D. Seshaiah said the union was left with no choice but to go for the strike option as the management remained adamant towards resolution of their demands. “We have prioritised our demands and put forth before the RLC for finding an amicable solution,” he said. Some of the important demands of the union are: service-linked promotions to the coalminers those completed seven years of service in case of underground mines and eight years in respect of opencast mines; provision of alternative employment and wage protection to the operators of dumpers those declared medically unfit. SCCL official spokesman and chief of Industrial Relations & Welfare, G. Sridhar Reddy, said that the talks with the recognised trade union representatives ended inconclusively. The RLC has postponed the talks, he said.
