Cab kills software engineer

Bangalore: A software engineer from Raichur died in a road accident in front of Manipal University in Allalasandra village in the Yelahanka Traffic Police Station limits here Friday night.

The Yelahanka police said C.D. Jayakumar, a native of Bagalwadi village, was working for GE India near Whitefield.

According to C.B. Basavaraju, who witnessed the accident, a speeding Meru cab hit his motorcycle around 8.30 p.m.

Local residents rushed Mr. Kumar to a hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.

“We have arrested the cab driver, P. Madhu, and impounded his car,” an official at the Yelahanka Traffic Police Station said.

Rag-picker murdered

Commercial Street police arrested two rag-pickers for allegedly murdering another rag picker, their friend.

Police identified the arrested as Richard and Steffi. According to the police, they found the victim, Raju, in a pool of blood near Thoppa Mudaliyar Street near Commercial Street Friday night.

The duo had allegedly assaulted Raju with a cement brick for trivial reasons and he died on the spot, police said.
