Yanam is the first town to host IVL tournament Dancers entertain the crowd ahead of the match YANAM: The Yanam leg of the Indian Volleyball League was off to a colourful start at the Dr. YSR International Indoor Stadium here late on Sunday afternoon. The six competing teams turning up in their colourful uniforms, a classical dance by children from Visakhapatnam and a fine dance ballet by a troupe from Berhampur entertained the spectators before they watched high quality volleyball when the competition commenced later in the evening. Internalional event A senior MLA and former Home Minister of Puducherry E. Valsaraj inaugurated the ILV Yanam league and appreciated the indoor stadium of international standards and other amenities created in Yanam by the local MLA M. Krishna Rao. Mr. Krishna Rao, a former Minister, said each team of IVL represented the entire country as the players were from different States. Yanam formed its own team, Yanam Tigers, which was a difficult task for a small place while bigger States could sponsor their teams. Mr. Krishna Rao assured the locals that an international tournament would be hosted here in three to four months. The discipline of the event would be decided later. Pleasant surprise Collector of East Godavari M. Ravichandra said it was a pleasant surprise to see the IVL team taking shape and Yanam hosting one of the IVL legs. Associate secretary (teams) of Volleyball Federation of India and advisor to IVL A. Ramana Rao said Yanam was the first town to offer to host IVL tournament, thanks to Mr. Krishna Rao. Coordinator of IVL and Indian coach G.E. Sridharan, Prasad Pawar and Hemant Rege of the Maratha Warriors; Chairman of Yanam Municipality G. Chandra Rao, Municipal Commissioner M.V. Subrahmanyam, Regional Adminstrator Vincent Rayor, Delegate to Director of Education R. David Raj, president of Yanam Sports and Games Development Authority P. Surya Prakash and its secretary and organising secretary of IVL here K. Ravishankar participated.
