Parkal emerges champion

HYDERABAD: Parkal emerged champion in the Pavan and Suresh Memorial Telangana hockey tournament, defeating Raghu XI (Mamnur) in the final in Huzurabad on Sunday, according to information received here.

Striker Ashish struck in the second and seventh minutes to clinch the issue for the winner. Earlier in the semifinals, Raghu XI got the better of Adilabad 5-4 in a tie-breaker, while Parkal also recorded an identical win over Nizamabad, which finished third in the final placings.

The event was organised in memory of two hockey players who died in a road accident. The winners got Rs. 5,001, the runner-up Rs. 3,001 and the third-placed team Rs. 1,001.

Mr. Etala Rajender, TRS Floor Leader in the AP Legislative Assembly, gave away the prizes.

Easy win for CSA

Charminar Sports Academy scored a 28-run win over Gajanana CA in the Charminar Cup Twenty20 invitation cricket tournament here.

The scores: Charminar SA 133 in 19.4 overs (Varun 47, Srinivas three for 15, Snikith three for 25) bt Gajanana CA 105 (Chari three for 19); MSD XI Score 99 in 17.4 overs (Saddam Hussain five for 20) bt President's XI Score 77 (Sudhir three for 10) .

Praneeth triumphs

K. Praneeth Surya won the Open title in the 61st Brilliant Trophy chess tournament with 5.5 points from six rounds on Sunday. Ch. Sahajasri and D. Lakshmi Krishna Bhushan finished second and third respectively with five points each. S.S.V. Aditya of Geetanjali Devshray School emerged the junior champion with 5.5 points from six rounds, while S. Nishok and S.B. Srikalyan were second and third respectively with five points each.

Aprajita, Nargis shine

Aprajita Tiwari bagged a double, winning both the small bore free rifle and the small bore rifle prone events in the State shooting championship at the SAAP Ranges in Central University (Gachibowli) here.

Nargis Fatima also won a double, sports pistol event in the juniors; category and the air pistol events.

Anurag Sharma, IPS, gave away the prizes.
