Expert speak: Scholar Garikapati Narasimha Rao speaking on ‘health and literature' at VUDA Park in the city on Sunday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: “One can derive a lot of satisfaction in providing selfless service to others and people in old age should try to relinquish their wealth rather than accumulate it,” observed noted Telugu scholar ‘Sahasravadhani' Garikapati Narasimha Rao.

Delivering a talk on ‘Literature - health' for Seashore Walkers' Association at VUDA Park in the city on Sunday morning, he advised the senior citizens to give up desires and practise disenchantment so as to lead a stress-free life. “One should live until one attains self-realisation,” he added.

Dr. Narasimha Rao said he envied the walkers who could spend time among trees. In this context, he quoted from Mahabhagavatham of Pothana to describe the wealth from trees, which provided us flowers, fruits, and medicinal values besides shade.

Earlier, Vice-Chairman of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority Kona Sasidhar, who addressed the members of the association, urged them to inculcate civic sense among the public for a better society. On a plea by association president Pedasomulu that a walking track be provided in the park since it was not advisable for the walkers to walk on hard surface, Mr. Sasidhar invited suggestions from the association to lay the track without disturbing the trees in the park. Mr. Sasidhar also inaugurated table tennis equipment of the association on the occasion. Secretary V. Ramarao spoke.
