Mr. Shantaram told presspersons here on Wednesday that the concept of dance festival was started last year to provide a platform to young, aspiring and talented dancers in Bharatanatya, Kuchipudi, Odissi and Kathak. The festival will be inaugurated by actor and dancer Lakshmi Gopalaswamy and Sarala Unnikrishnan, Director of Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Bangalore Chapter, on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Seva Sadan in Malleswaram. It will be followed by an Odissi performance by Vandana, Kuchipudi by Vasanth Kiran and Bharatanatya by Charles Ma. The valedictory programme, on Friday, will be at the Ravindra Kalakshetra at 6 p.m. The highlight will be a performance by artistes of Shivapriya School of Dance, fusion of modern dance with Indian classical dances by Patrick and Cohen; and Bharatanatya by Shankar Kandaswamy, a Malaysia-based dancer.
