Sugar sacks confiscated at Chandagad

Kolhapur: The Revenue Department officials have confiscated 2.17 lakh sugar sacks from Daulat Cooperative Sugar Factory on Tuesday at Chandagad in Kolhapur district for paying dues of sugarcane farmers who had supplied cane to the sugar factory. The factory had to pay Rs. 54 crore to farmers who were waiting for payment which had been delayed by the factory management. After a complaint was lodged with the Director of Sugar, sacks estimated at Rs. 62 crore were confiscated. The officials were asked to pay the workers dues of Rs. 22 crore as they paid those of farmers by confiscating the sacks. But the officials told the workers' leaders that they were ordered to consider farmers' payment of dues and not those of workers who had to approach the authorities concerned.
