Measures to check irregular practices in ration shops

THENI: The district administration has started controlling illegal practices like less weight, improper supply, poor maintenance of records and shortage in stock of PDS goods in ration shops to ensure supply of quality goods in right quantity to all card holders in the district.
In a surprise raid conducted in fair price shops in different places in the district here on Thursday, the teams found bogus billing, shortage of stock and other irregularities at Uthamapuram ration shop number 3, Theni cooperative marketing society shop number 7, Genguvarpatti fair price shop numbers 1 and 2, Singarajapuram ration shop number 1, Gandamanur fair price shop number 2 and Varushanadu fair price shop 1.
Seven sales personnel of these shops were suspended immediately on the charges of indulging in malpractices and irregularities.
Action
Stern action would be initiated against those involved in irregular practices. No slackness would be entertained in distribution of essential commodities through ration shops, warned the Collector, K. S. Palanisamy.
