‘Let CBI probe Dey's murder'

Special Correspondent

GULBARGA: Journalists affiliated to the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists (KUWJ) in Gulbarga district demanded that the Maharashtra Government hand over the probe into the murder of journalist J. Dey to the CBI.

Led by the president of the Gulbarga unit of KUWJ, Baburao Yedrami, the journalists took out a procession from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Chowk and staged a protest at the Vikasa Soudha outside the Deputy Commissioner's office. They later submitted a memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Deputy Commissioner R. Vishal.

The journalists condemned the murder and demanded that the Government immediately arrest those involved.

The memorandum also wanted the Union Government to pass legislation to provide protection to journalists. Senior journalists Shrikantacharya Mannur and P.M. Mannur addressed the gathering.
