Four more arrested in Saukaryam fraud

VISAKHAPATNAM: Police on Thursday arrested four more persons involved in what has come to be known as the GVMC Saukaryam fraud in which about Rs.2.5 crore was embezzled, taking the total number of arrested to 10. An amount of Rs.7 lakh and documents of a property valued at Rs.3.5 lakh were seized from the four.
Giving details at a press conference here, DCP (Law and Order) B. Balakrishna said the four arrested were Y. Tirupati Rao, 38, of Arilova, Sarvasiddi Srinivasa Rao, 47, of China Waltair, Mukkala Sanyasi Rao, 34, of Ajanta Park, Gopalapatnam and Md. Ismail, 36, of Muslim Tatichetlapalem.
Investigations would continue to nab the remaining three, four persons involved and might result in recovery of more cash, the DCP said. He denied that any higher officials of GVMC were involved in the fraud. “If that were the case we would have arrested them first,” he said.
Of the four arrested, Tirupati Rao and Yakub worked as assistants to bill collectors of GVMC while S. Srinivasa Rao worked at Counter 1 of the Saukaryam centre and Sanyasi Rao assisted in executing software provided by B.S. Srinivasa Rao, a junior software programmer, and another accused was arrested on Tuesday.
ACP (East) M. Krishnamurthy Naidu and Inspector (Cyber Crime) C.M. Naidu were present.
