Rs. 480 crore released in three years for Chikmagalur, says MLA

CHIKMAGALUR: C.T. Ravi, MLA, said here on Wednesday that Rs. 479.73 crore had been released for development works in Chikmagalur Assembly Constituency during the past three years.

Interacting with presspersons in a programme organized by the District Journalists' Association, Mr.Ravi said that the public works department has spent Rs.123 crores on roads and Rs.158 crores have been granted for deck slab drainages and latrines.

Stating that Rs.57.50 crores have been utilized by MESCOM for a receiving station and for the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Electrification Scheme, he said the Minor Irrigation Department has taken up works worth Rs. 48.60 crore.

He said a project report for four-laning the Kadur-Chikmagalur road at a cost of Rs. 136 crore had been prepared and Rs. 20 crore sanctioned for asphalting the existing road. Out of the target of 3,000 Ashraya houses to be built in his constituency, he said 850 houses were nearing completion.

Declaring his intention to make Chikmagalur a centre for tourism and education, he said that postgraduate courses had been commenced. Proposals for an MBA college and a degree college for women had been submitted, he added. In reply to a question, he said that he was not in favour of keeping the Dattatreya Peeta-Bababudangiri controversy alive for political gain.

Prafulla Manjunath, zilla panchayat president, Ninge Gowda, president of the Chikmagalur City Municipal Council, Kanakaraj, taluk panchayat president, and Rekha Huliyappagowda, president of the State Coconut and Coir Development Board, were present.
