Row over ‘Vadap' in Satara

Correspondent

Kolhapur: Udyanraje Bhosle, MP, and Satara Superintendent of Police, M.M. Prasanna, appeared to be divided over the issue of capacity intake that should be allowed for passenger vehicles in and around Satara. At present, the number of autorickshaws and four-wheelers known as ‘Vadap' (share a vehicle system) carry passengers far in excess of the prescribed number. Mr. Prasanna has initiated a crackdown on such vehicles. Owners of these vehicles then approached Mr. Bhosale, who is the Satara MP, and appealed to him to take steps to allow carrying more number of passengers.

When Mr. Bhosale approached Mr. Prasanna, the latter advised Mr. Bhosale to take up the matter with the Minister concerned and get specific orders issued in this regard.

Mr. Prasanna paid surprise visits to various police stations in and around Satara on Wednesday and gave instructions to the police that laws should be enforced strictly.
