‘Purple' flavour creates a buzz

MANGALORE: You might think that it is not every day that you get a seasonal fruit in an ice-cream. But mouth-freezing treat of the fruits season is here to tickle your taste buds.

Only a month old in the city, the word about purple jamun ice-cream has spread tempting people to walk into the franchise for a bite despite the rain.

Naturals near the Mallikatte area here has introduced the new flavour. After you order the flavour of your choice, you can sit back in an unconventionally designed shop, with a sofa running along the wall and three tables set up at distances.

It takes a moment for the pungent flavour of jamuns to find its way to your taste buds amid the cold, but when it does, the bits of jamun in the ice-cream makes for an interesting dessert experience.

Twenty-year old Jitha Mohan said it was the fruit – being a favourite – that tempted her to try the flavour. “I will eat almost anything that has jamun in it,” she said. Owner of the local franchise T. Veerendra Shenoy said that most flavours at the franchise would be available for three or four months or as long as the fruit is. Along with jamun, litchee was also available and in a month's time custard apple would be back, he said.
