TAMBARAM: Three men were killed in separate accidents on arterial roads in the southern suburbs of Chennai since Wednesday evening. All of them were motorcyclists. Chennai Suburban Traffic police said that in the accident that took place on the road overbridge on Wednesday evening at Tambaram, Murugan (40) was critically injured when he was hit by a lorry. A resident of Pallavaram, Murugan was a teacher at a government school near Padappai in Kancheepuram district. After work, he was returning home on his motorcycle when it was hit from behind by the lorry. Murugan sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the Tambaram Taluk Government Hospital in Chromepet, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The accident took place around 5 p.m on Wednesday. Around 7 p.m., Sudhakaran (20) of Valmiki Street in East Tambaram, died on the spot when he crashed his motorcycle onto the median on Velachery Main Road. Police said Sudhakaran, was riding his 100cc motorcycle in high speed with a friend Dinesh seated on the pillion. Opposite Boaz Public School in Gowrivakkam, he lost control of his motorcycle and it hit the median. He fell and sustained head injuries and died instantly, police said. On Thursday, 31-year-old Jayakumar died on the spot when the motorcycle he was riding crashed onto the steel barricade on Chennai Bypass at West Tambaram. An electrician hailing from Valasarawakkam, he was riding the motorcycle with an assistant, Prabhakaran (19), seated on the pillion. They were travelling on the Bypass towards Guduvanchery, when the accident took place around 1 p.m. Police said Jayakumar lost control of the motorcycle after a drowsy Prabhakaran fell on his back causing the motorcycle to crash, slitting Jayakumar's throat, resulting in his instant death.
