Kashmere Gate ISBT bus operations to be shifted gradually
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The operation of buses from the Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminus, which is being closed for about four months for up-gradation work, would be shifted gradually and systematically to other places after due inspection by joint teams to ensure viability in all respects.
It is learnt that the decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Delhi Transport Minister Haroon Yusuf and attended by all stakeholders, including the Delhi Traffic Police, on Wednesday. While earlier there were reports that a large number of buses operating from the Kashmere Gate terminus would be shifted to the Sarai Kale Khan terminus during the development work, the traffic police raised concern about its impact on smooth vehicular movement. It was suggested that the buses could be operated from transportation centres set up for the Commonwealth Games last year, at places like Dwarka, Games Village, Burari and Indraprastha Depot.
“The State Government's Transport Department will provide us a list of such locations that will be jointly inspected, keeping in view all requirements, to ensure that the shifting of buses does not cause inconvenience to people,” said an officer.
