Nasser, in Chennai on Friday. Madras Medical College Dean V.Kanakasabai and Director of Medical Education C. Vijay said on Friday. He was speaking at the inauguration of a three-day cultural fest at the Tamil Nadu Government Dental College here. Improving facilities Dr. Vijay said efforts would be made to consider the requests put forward by the college principal, K.S.G.A. Nasser, to improve in-house facilities in the hospital. “We receive around 900-1,600 patients a day from across the State, and Andhra Pradesh too,” said Dr. Nasser. “The number of patients has almost doubled in the last few years. All surgeries and extractions are done for free here, and charges for other services are the same as fixed 20 years ago,” Dr Nasser said. “Explore other fields” Recalling his days as a medical student, the Minister urged the students to explore other interesting fields too, and not be restricted to academics alone. Other requests made by the college authorities, including hostel facilities for the dental students and more dental chairs would be considered too, he added. Medical counselling, he added, would commence on June 30. Madras Medical College Dean V.Kanakasabai said students of dentistry, pharmacy, and medicine need to work as a team, and are in no way one inferior to the other. “Cultural fests such as this would help this students relax, and maintain their calm much required for years of sincere study,” he said. Director of Medical Education C. Vamsadhara said such cultural exchanges would promote the holistic development of the dentists. Participants from 28 different colleges of Tamil Nadu are participating in the fest that includes music, dance and art competitions.
