GUNTUR: Development works costing Rs 1 crore have been sanctioned for the Government General Hospital (GGH). A decision to this effect was taken by the Hospital Development Committee (HDC) at its meeting held under the chairmanship of In-Charge Collector A. Sarath. The items to be provided include multi-channel monitors in the intensive care units and some other departments at a cost of Rs 10 lakh, two pulse oximeters and a defibrillator at a cost of Rs 4 lakh and equipment in operation theatres costing Rs 7.50 lakh. A sum of Rs 6 lakh each for conducting repairs to air-conditioners in the mortuary and electrical wiring and generator systems.Mr. Sarath was told by GGH Superintendent D. Phanibhushan that orders releasing Rs 5 crore for construction of the Millennium Block were expected to be issued in a week while members of the Guntur Medical College Alumni of North America (GMCANA) came forwarded to contribute an equal sum for the development of the teaching hospital. GMCANA coordinator Y.V.S. Prabhakar said funds were now being given for the construction of the Millennium Block. It will be followed by funding of costly equipment like a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) system.
