Plea to increase old age pension

CHENNAI: The Federation of Senior Citizens Associations of Tamil Nadu has appealed to the Centre to increase the monthly old age pension to Rs.3,000.

Letter to P.M.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the association's general secretary, S.M.Chellaswamy, said this was essential to meet the high cost of living.

He thanked the government for reducing age of eligibility for availing the pension from 65 to 60, a press release said.
