Woman kidnapped

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A woman from Bangalore, who came to attend an interview here on June 15, was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons. Based on a complaint lodged by the victim's brother, the Koyambedu police have registered a case of kidnap on Friday.

According to police K. Kamakshi (25) called her brother S. Shanmugam and said that she was about to board a bus to Bangalore at the Koyambedu bus stand on June 15 evening. However, she did not reach home the next day. When Shanmugam called her mobile repeatedly it was switched off. Hours later, when he tried again, Kamakshi attended the call and claimed to have been kidnapped and confined to a room in Chennai. She also alleged that she was tortured.

Shanmugam came to Chennai on Friday and lodged a complaint with the police. A case under Section 363 (kidnapping) was registered. Special teams are investigating, police sources said, adding that enquiries were made with some persons known to Kamakshi's family here.
