PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has maintained that he will meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi to seek her “blessings.” Addressing a press conference here on Friday night, he said, “there is nothing wrong in meeting great leaders such as Ms. Gandhi to get their blessings.” However, he maintained silence to questions of a possible alliance with the Congress and chance of meeting Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. He also did not reply to a question on the fate of alliance with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Apart from meeting Ms. Gandhi in New Delhi, he would meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Ministers and brief them about the needs of Union Territory. Being a Union Territory, the administration has to get financial support and work in close coordination with the Centre, Mr. Rangasamy said. Responding to a query, he said that the vacant post of a Minister would be filled shortly and nominated MLAs would be appointed after obtaining clearance from the Union government. Portfolios would be allocated to the four Ministers very shortly. The All India N.R. Congress won 15 of the 17 seats it contested within two months of formation of the party and secured 31 per cent of the total votes polled. The party had been recognised by the Election Commission as a registered State party and allotted “Jug” as the symbol, Mr. Rangasamy said.
