Bangalore: After promising houses for slum-dwellers of Bangalore in the next six months, Housing Minister V. Speaking to reporters after a meeting with officials of the Karnataka State Small Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC), the Karnataka Slum Clearance Board, the Housing Department, and heads of other civic agencies, Mr. Somanna said the project would be launched on a pilot basis in Shimoga and Koppal districts by allotting 1,000 housing sites measuring 20 x 30 sq. ft and 30 x 40. sq ft to industrial workers. The target was to allot 30,000 sites during the year, he said. The Government would grant subsidy of Rs. 50,000 for construction of each house. The Deputy Commissioners would be asked to acquire land at the prevailing market prices in the districts. The details of the housing scheme would be worked out after formal approval of the project in the next Cabinet meeting, Mr. Somanna said.
