GULBARGA: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) of the 32nd Karnataka Battalion, on Sunday, joined hands with the Gulbarga City Corporation on a month-long awareness campaign for a ‘Clean and Green Gulbarga City'.

Mayor Ashfaq Chulbul flagged off the awareness campaign along with Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University E.T. Puttaiah and the Secretary of the Hyderabad Karnataka Area Development Board Shalini Rajneesh Goel by planting tree saplings here.

Mr. Chulbul thanked the NCC cadets for collaborating with the city corporation in the drive to keep the city clean and green.

Staff shortage

The city corporation, he said, had a shortage of permanent staff for clearing garbage. It had now hired labourers on contract basis for the this work.

The Mayor urged the public to cooperate with NCC cadets and the city corporation staff.

Mr. Puttaiah said there was an urgent need to stop the use of plastics, which was posing a serious threat to the environment. Hundreds of NCC cadets from different districts would be participating in the month-long drive.
