Children brought by train for work ‘Accused an agent for those in need of child labourers' KOZHIKODE: The Nadakkavu police on Sunday arrested Ragesh, 19, a native of Bihar, on charges of child trafficking and rescued 10 children from the West Hill railway station. The children were brought by train (at the behest of the accused) to be engaged as labourers in various parts of the city, sub-inspector P. Shyam said. Ragesh had been functioning as an agent for people in need of child labourers, he added. The children were produced before the Child Welfare Committee in the district and later sent to the Government Children's Home. A detailed inquiry would be conducted into the incident and the whereabouts of the children would be found out, the police said. With the latest instance, the number of children freed as labourers rose to 53 in the district this year. The police, as part of a State-level drive, had rescued 43 children from various parts of the district. Of these, 33 were rescued from various parts of the city.
