Srinagar: Elaborate security and other arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth 45-day annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, an official spokesman said today.
The Amarnath yatra, for which nearly three lakh pilgrims have registered, is scheduled to commence on June 29 from the twin routes of Pahalgam in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district.
“Elaborate arrangements have been made in the Valley and Jammu for the security of the pilgrims,” the spokesman said after a high-level meeting chaired by Director General of State Police Kuldeep Khoda here.
Elaborate setup
He said the meeting convened at Police headquarters on Saturday to review security arrangements for the yatra was attended by senior police, Army, paramilitary, intelligence and civil administration.
Intelligence inputs also came under discussion and it was decided that the control rooms established by different agencies will coordinate and keep vigil on the situation to foil any attempt by miscreants to disturb the pilgrimage, the spokesman said.
Complete network
The telecommunication network has started functioning at various locations across the state to coordinate among the different agencies involved in the conduct of yatra to the shrine located at a hight of 3880 m. Addressing the meeting, Mr. Khoda emphasised on close coordination at all levels to make the yatra successful. – PTI
