Garudasevai attracts devotees

majestic ride:Devotees offering worship to Sri Perumal on the occasion of Duvadasa Garudasevai in Thanjavur on Monday.

THANJAVUR: The Thiruthanjai Duvadasa Garudasevai was held at Thanjavur on Monday. Twenty-three idols of Sri Perumal of Vaishnavite temples in and around Thanjavur were taken in procession on the four main streets of the town on Garuda Vahanam. The deities were taken out in a procession from various temples at 6 a.m. and converged at Kodimarathumoolai, a couple of hours later. From there Sri Thirumangai Azhwar led the procession of the idols on Garudavanaham through the west, east, south and north main streets.

People witnessed the Garudasevai from various places in the town. The idols taken by Garuda Vahanams are Sri Neelamega Perumal, Sri Narasimha Perumal, Sri Manikunna Perumal, Sri Velur Varadaraja Perumal, Vennatrankarai Sri Kalyana Venkatesa Perumal, Karanthai Sri Yadava Kannan, Kondirajapalayam Sri Yoga Narasimha Perumal, Sri Kothandarama perumal, Keelarajaveedhi Sri Varadaraja Perumal, Therku Veedhi Sri Kaliyga Venkatesa Perumal, Ayyankadai Theru Bazaar Sri Ramasamy Perumal, Ellaiyamman Koil Theru Sri Jamardjama Perumal, Kottai Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, Sri Govindaraja Perumal, Mela Alankam Sri Ranganatha Perumal, Melaraja Veedhi Sri Vijayarama Perumal, Melarajaveedhi Sri Navaneetha Krishnan, Sakanayakkan street Sri Booloka Krishnan, Manambuchavadi Sri Navaneetha Krishnaswamy, Manambuchavadi Sri Prasanna Venkatesa Perumal, Palli Agraharam Sri Kothandramasamy Perumal, Sungan Thidal Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal, and Karantai Vaniyathery Sri Venkatesa Perumal.

Navaneetha Sevai will be held on June 21, Tuesday and Vidayatri on June 22 Wednesday.

After Nangoor in Nagapattinam district and Kumbakonam, it is only in Thanjavur that the Garuda Sevai is held in a grand manner. An unique feature is that, only here a larger number of idols of Sri Perumal are taken out on procession .
