AGITATION:Residents staging a protest in Tuticorin on Monday. Tuticorin: A large number of residents from Paetmanagaram, which is attached to Srivaikuntam taluk, laid a siege to the Collectorate here on Monday demanding for the closure of stone-crushing unit. The agitating residents along with cadres of Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a protest against the unit alleging environmental pollution. The unit near the residential area, was startedin 2008. “Since the start of the crushing unit, people have been undergoing hardship. It is not only causing environmental pollution but noise pollution also.” Petition seeking action against the unit was submitted. The agitation was led by Peer Mohammed, Jamath president, Paetmanagaram.
