PERAMBALUR: Stern action will be taken against officials delaying action in providing the necessary assistance to the needy, said Darez Ahmed, District Collector. Addressing officials at a meeting here on Monday, the Collector said that the State government accorded priority for the implementation of people-oriented welfare schemes. Officials should ensure prompt action on the petitions received at their offices and also on occasions including the monthly grievances day meeting and mass contact day programmes. The Collector also appealed to the people in need of some assistance or other to approach the respective officer or the Collectorate. On no account, the beneficiaries should rely on middlemen or agents, he said. Earlier, the Collector received petitions from the members of the public at the weekly grievances day meeting. He also distributed assistance to the tune of Rs.2.34 lakh to 20 persons. Five persons got motorised sewing machines; while four others received the tri-cycles. Lokeswari, Project Director, District Rural Development Agency and Soundararajan, Assistant Director of Horticulture were among those who were present.
