Detained under Goondas Act

PUDUKOTTAI: A 26-year old youth J. Jerene Joseph alias Diwan of Gandhi Nagar was detained under the ‘Goondas Act' on Monday.

An official press release issued here said that Diwan, lodged at the Tiruchi Central Prison, was arrested last week at Arasampatti near Tirumayam after robbing a person, at knife point, of Rs.600. Based on the recommendations of M.S. Muthusamy, Superintendent of Police, B. Maheswari, District Collector, issued orders detaining Diwan under the Act.

This is the second arrest this month under the Act, after the police administration prepared a profile of history-sheeters for the maintenance of law and order.
