PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Monday said his government is not in favour of retrenchment of workers.

Running on loss

The government had taken the decision to remove workers from government-run Cooperative Societies and Corporations as these organisations were running on loss, he said, while speaking at a function organised by the Labour Department.

The government was in favour of providing job opportunities for qualified persons in a proper manner, he said.

Child labour

Referring to the problem of child labour, he said one of the main reasons for introducing free education and mid-day meal scheme was to attract students to schools. But sill child labour persists, he added.

Appeal to parents

He appealed to parents to use the opportunity and encourage their wards to attend schools.

Appealing to the Labour Department to conduct periodic inspection of industrial units to ensure there are adequate safety measures for workers, he said the Department had the responsibility of overseeing the safety.
