Six held in L&T official's kidnap case

KADAPA: Police on Monday arrested six persons on charge of kidnapping for ransom J. Prakash, Manager of L & T Railway Project, wrongful confinement, attempt to murder and criminal intimidation near the new bridge in Yerraguntla mandal on June 17, and recovered Rs. 28.25 lakh, two gold rings, a gold chain, six cellphones and a motorcycle from them.

S. Mahaboob Basha, 22, and Syed Shareef, 20, hailed from Pamuluru in Vempalli mandal, Gorla Obulesu, 26, from Kalamalla, Kunchapu Ravi Kumar, 26, from Mekala Balayapalli, Budugula Keshava, 26, from Malepadu, all in Yerraguntla mandal of Kadapa district, and Kaveti Prabhakar, 28, of Peddavangali in Chagalamarri mandal in Kurnool district, Kadapa DSP M. Bhaskar Reddy told a press conference here. One Kavali Baludu, 24, of Chagalamarri mandal was absconding.

When Mr. Prakash was proceeding in a Bolero car, driven by Mahaboob Basha, to Mangapatnam village for site inspection, the accused sprinkled chilli powder in their eyes, covered their eyes with a cloth and kidnapped the manager and driver, the DSP said. Later, they dropped the driver at Muddanur and told him to get a ransom of Rs. 30 lakh from the project office. The kidnappers confined Mr. Prakash in the house of Chakrapani, brother of an accused, in Kona Uppalapadu in Yadiki mandal in Anantapur district and beat him up, he explained.

On receipt of Rs. 30 lakh, the accused released the project manager and shared the booty. Yerraguntla CI B. Umamaheswara Reddy, Kadapa Urban CI G. Nageswara Reddy, Kadapa Central Crime Station CI M. Venkatadri, Kadapa Rural SI Ramakrishna, Gangireddipalle SI Hemasundar, Yerraguntla SI Sivasankar nabbed the accused.
