Kozhikode: A convention of the Kerala Private School Association (KPSA), representing schools in north Kerala, on Monday hailed the government's decision to grant no-objection certificate (NoC) to CBSE and ICSE schools in the State and alleged a smear campaign to condemn the decision was being whipped up by vested interests. The meeting was called specifically to discuss the protests against the decision to recognise such schools. Nissar Olavanna, State convener, condemned the critics and accused them of spreading canards to the effect that as many as 524 schools had already been granted NoCs though “application for NoC has not even been invited”. Condemning the detractors of the decision, he challenged them to set an example for others by admitting their children in government and aided schools before targeting private schools for criticism. The KPSA said the UDF government decision was in line with a Supreme Court order rejecting the LDF government's contention that only schools that had recognition under the Kerala Education Rules were eligible for NoC.
