Textbook distribution under Samacheer Kalvi scheme begins in Erode district

ERODE: The distribution of textbooks, prepared under the Samacheer Kalvi initiative of the State government, to the students of Class I and VI has begun in Erode district on Monday.

The district has over 16,000 students in Class I and more than 6,000 students in the Class VI.

The distribution of textbooks began after the Supreme Court asked the Tamil Nadu government to continue the implementation of the Samacheer Kalvi Thittam (Uniform System of School Education) for Classes I and VI for 2011-2012, State school education department officials said.

Some of the portions, including the propaganda material introduced by the previous Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government, were removed from these textbooks before they were taken up for distribution as “as per instructions”, they said.

“All the students in Class I and VI in the Erode will have the textbooks by Tuesday.

“A majority of the schools in the district has already handed over the textbooks under the Samacheer Kalvi scheme to the students,” State education department officials said.
