CHENNAI: Sriperumbudur MP,T.R. Baalu has filed a writ petition in the Madras High Court challenging a notice of the Chennai Corporation directing him to vacate his office premises at T. Nagar and hand over the land to the civic body within a fortnight. Mr. Baalu submitted that when he was elected from the South Madras constituency in 1996, he was allotted an office on Thyagaraya Road by the local body. When he was re-elected as an MP from the Sriperumbudur Lok Sabha constituency in 2009, he was permitted to use the office in T.Nagar as a camp office on May 22, 2009. However, after the AIADMK was voted to power in the State, the Zonal Officer, Zone-VIII issued a notice dated May 31 directing him to vacate the office premises and hand over the land. The letter had been posted on June 7 and was received by him the next day. The petition sought to quash the notice and to direct the Corporation Commissioner to place the matter before the Chennai Corporation Council. The matter came up before Justice R. Sudhakar on Monday. It was adjourned to Tuesday.
