Rail roko planned on June 22

COIMBATORE: An all-party meeting convened by Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) on Saturday has called for a rail roko agitation on June 22 demanding Southern Railway divert all the trains running on the Irugur – Podanur Junction via Coimbatore when the new railway time table comes into force on July 1.

A release from general secretary of the PDK K. Ramakrishnan said that 13 pairs of trains besides specials and new trains were running via Irugur – Podanur – Irugur junction skipping Coimbatore Junction.

The diversion of trains continued even after the laying of the second line between Coimbatore – Irugur which has removed the single line bottleneck.

On June 22, activists of political parties would enter the Coimbatore Junction at 4 p.m. and block the trains. The meeting was attended by eight political parties. and various associations of trade and industry.
