Students hold rally against drug use

Hibi Eden, MLA, inaugurated a committee against the influence of drugs and alcohol in students at the O.L.C.G. Higher Secondary School, Thoppumpady. Deputy Excise Commissioner, Ernakulam, offered felicitations. School principal Treesa Jaseena Jospeh administered the anti-drugs oath. Corporation Councillor Selin Peter, school local manager C. Rosilind, corporate correspondent Sister Mary Joseph Chittilappally, anti-drugs committee convener Sister Lisy Chakkalaykkal were also present. A rally to create awareness about the social evils of drugs and alcohol was undertaken jointly by the students and members of the Parent-Teacher Association. St. Sebastian's Higher Secondary School and the parish members also joined the rally in a show of solidarity for the cause.

Debate competition

Talent Residential School, Edachira, near Kakkanad will host the preliminary stage of this year's Frank Anthony Memorial All India Inter-school Debate Competition at its Audio Visual Room on Friday.

The debate will start at 9.30 a.m. and contestants are expected to be in the hall 30 minutes before the start. Participants, so willing, can reach the venue a day ahead of the debate. The school authorities have charted sight-seeing and recreational activities for the participants on that day. The participating schools are required to give the names of contesting students and those accompanying them, along with the time of arrival, at the earliest. Student exchange

A team of 20 students and three teachers from Bhavan's Vidya Mandir, Elamakkara, will leave for Cranbrook School, Kent, in the United Kingdom on Thursday as part of a two-week long exchange programme. During the visit, the team will exchange views and ideas with their English counterparts and share a platform with them to exhibit their artistic and cultural traditions. They will also get a first-hand experience of the education system prevalent there. Investiture

The investiture ceremony of Greets Public School, Kaloor, was held on June 15. Hibi Eden, MLA, was the chief guest. Preetha Philo N.D of standard XII and Silpa Thaliath of standard XI were elected as school leader and assistant leader respectively. Mr. Eden gave the sash and badges to all the members of the school parliament. Bethel Foundation Director and managing trustee, Sabu Thomas Vadakekut, director K. J. Itty, member of the managing committee retired Colonel Nair were also present.
