QUICK WORK:Inspector General of Police (South Zone) and Commissioner of Police Madurai city (incharge) presenting cash awards to the police officers in Madurai on Monday. The police swiftly solved a robbery case involving a real estate broker's cash. MADURAI: Inspector General of Police (south zone) M.N. Manjunatha, who is holding additional charge as Commissioner of Police (Madurai city) rewarded the police officers – from Madurai city and Sivaganga district - for their effective coordination and swiftly solving the robbery crime reported in the city three days ago. A real estate broker Podaraj of Teppakulam, who was carrying Rs 14.50 lakh cash on his two-wheeler, lost it mid-way after some unidentified robbers took away and fled from the scene in another two-wheeler. All check-posts adjoining the city and district borders were alerted. The police personnel at a check-post in Sivaganga district spotted the two-wheeler on the same night and informed the Madurai city police. Effective coordination and interrogation led to the recovery of Rs 12.38 lakh and arrest of three accused. Mr. Manjunatha was hopeful of recovering the remaining cash of Rs 2.12 lakh cash, which is suspected to be with another accused, who allegedly committed suicide. After presenting a token cash award to the Inspectors of Police Ganesan and Gnanasekaran from Madurai city, sub-inspectors Rajesh, Vadivelmurugan and Krishnan and Special Sub-Inspector Mohammed Fakrudeen all from Sivaganga district, he told reporters here on Monday that the police would recover the balance money.
