MADURAI: In broad daylight, a 24-year-old woman was found dead in her house under mysterious circumstances and some gold valuables were missing here on Monday. Police identified the victim as Sivakali Devi, wife of Murugan, of Karl Marx II Street, Indirani Nagar, Mudakkuchalai. Preliminary probe suggested that some persons known to the victim may have visited the house and committed the crime. In a bid to divert attention of the investigators, the accused may have taken away the valuables. At the time of the incident, the woman was with her one-and-a-half-year-old child. The husband has a mobile shop and was said to be away at the time. When he returned home and saw his wife lying on the floor in an unconscious state, he informed 108 ambulance service, who confirmed that the person was dead. Following this, the Karimedu police were informed about the incident. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case of murder for gain. Forensic experts visited the scene of crime. Some strangulation marks around the neck were visible, another officer added. Inspector General and Commissioner of Police M.N. Manjunatha visited the spot.
