Mumbai: Police on Monday claimed to have cracked the burglary at a jewellery making unit in South Mumbai with the arrest of five persons from different parts of the country. The loot of gold jewellery and cash collectively valued at Rs 3.52 crore had occurred on the intervening night of June 11 and 12. Police recovered Rs 3.43 crore worth gold biscuits and ornaments and Rs 6.50 lakh in cash from the accused, Deputy Police Commissioner Anil Kumbhare said adding that, “the accused had spent Rs 2.50 lakh.” The accused were identified as Sandeep Sharma alias Sanju (21), the mastermind in the burglary, and his aides Devilal Meena (21), Pushkar Patel (29), Gopal Nagora (29) and Mahavir Chajed (26), police said. Sandeep Sharma was arrested from the city, Meena and Patel from Udaipur in Rajasthan, Nagora from Ahmedabad in Gujarat and Chajed was arrested from Virar, police said. Sharma, an employee at the victim Mahendra Sakaria Jain's jewellery unit at Dhanji street in South Mumbai, had made a duplicate key of the shutters. Sharma and his four associates opened the shutters of the office and committed the crime, police said. - PTI
