Public contact programme evokes good response

Most of the grievances raised were addressed on the spot, says Tourism Minister


Minister orders immediate increase in allowance for two persons with disability

A majority of complaints pertained to social security, ration cards and shelter




INTERACTING WITH PEOPLE:G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism, at the public contact programme in Bellary on Monday.

BELLARY: G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism and district in-charge, on Monday directed the authorities concerned to increase the allowance being given to Nagendra (18) and Parvathi (19), brother and sister with collagen disorder, a congenital anomaly.

The Minister took this decision immediately after their parents met him at “Nimmondige Naavu”, a public contact programme here.

Mr. Reddy directed the officials of the Social Welfare Department to appoint A. Gangamma, a woman with a disability, as a second division assistant.

Petitions

Later, Mr. Reddy told presspersons that he had received 1,100 petitions from the people here. He had received 346 petitions in Bellary (Rural) Assembly constituency, followed by 525 in Kudligi; 486 in Sandur; 480 in Hadagali; 418 in Hospet; and 426 in Kampli.

Spot clearance

He said that several grievances were addressed on the spot and others had been forwarded to the departments concerned with instruction to initiate appropriate action within a month, failing which stern action would be taken against the officials.

Major grievances

A majority of the petitions pertained to social security, below the poverty line ration cards, and shelter. It had been planned to construct 4,000 houses. The list of beneficiaries under various housing schemes were being prepared by the committees headed by MLAs, he said. ‘Pattas' were issued to a few residents of Prashant Nagar.

Cheques handed over

The Minister also handed over cheques to Hanumanthamma and D.T. Bhagyamma for meeting their medical expenses.

Financial assistance was extended to a few others as well.

A public address system was given to the government school at Andral. Health Minister B. Sriramulu, and MLAs G. Somashekar Reddy and T.H. Suresh Babu were present. Municipal Commissioner D.L. Narayan welcomed the gathering.
