Land acquisition dogs these projects

Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA: While different political parties and associations have released in advance their charter of demands and ‘wish list' they are going to submit to the Chief Minister, the people of Krishna district and Vijayawada city are waiting with bated breath to hear what Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has to say about the Machilipatnam Port and the Gannavaram airport.

The development of Machilipatnam port has been an issue of great embarrassment to the leaders of the Congress in the district. Telugu Desam Party activists have launched many an agitation, including hunger strike, to focus the tardy progress in the port development much to the chagrin of the ruling Congress. The biggest obstacle for the development of the port is apparently land acquisition.

Airport expansion

The expansion of the airport too is also facing a crunch due to delay in land acquisition. The public and the Congress cadres are hoping that the Chief Minister will announce sanction of funds needed for acquiring land for developing the port and airport.
