Patna: Expressing concern at increasing pollution of the Ganga, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday urged the Centre to provide more funds and delegate authority to the States to make the river pollution-free. “The Centre should consider provision for more funds and delegation of authority to the States to work on measures to make the river pollution-free,” he told reporters in reply to a question. “It is a matter of serious concern that the sacred waters of the river Ganga have been polluted to such an extent that they is not worth drinking or taking a dip,” he said. Mr. Kumar also urged the Centre to hold meetings of the authority set up under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister to deal with pollution in the Ganga at regular intervals so that remedial measures could be reviewed from time to time. So far only one meeting of the authority on the Ganga has been held, he said. - PTI
